Why a book drive?

Early success in school is significantly increased when  children have  had at least a thousand books read to them by the time they are 5 Years  old. Literacy development  is enhanced and emotional bonds are strengthened when families read together.

Via the 1000 x 5 Project now underway in School Districts No.61,62 and 63, gently used picture books are collected through schools. The books are screened, sorted and bagged as gifts for families with children(from birth to 5).The bags are regularly distributed to three local food banks, 15 strong start centres, many family-serving agencies and social pograms, as well as other easily accessible locations.

Cold Cut Combo

Gyspy Jazz

Chris Sartisohn: lead guitar

Aaron Watson: rhythm guitar / accordion / vocals
Timothy Croft: contrabass

The Cold Cut Combo is a Victoria-based group of improvisational musicians specializing in Gypsy Jazz, Swing, and Parisian Mussette. Known for their infectious melodies and hypnotic rhythms, the CCC features virtuosic Jazz Manouche guitars, soulful accordion and swingin’ bass, and can be seen playing in Victoria’s pubs, clubs, restaurants and lounges, as well as the international festival circuit.

The Cold Cut Combo’s repertoire features jazz standards from the greatest composers of the 20th century, including Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Carlos Jobim, George & Ira Gershwin, and of course the great Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli of the Hot Club de France. While paying homage to the greats, the CCC’s music has a decidedly original feel and captures a vitality and freshness that make this music contemporary once again.
